Game of Thrones Season 7 is shooting all over Spain and set leaks to Watchers on the Wall suggest some of the series’ biggest action scenes yet are in store for the upcoming episodes. We previously wrote about Game of Thrones Season 7 filming in the amphitheater at Italica: the ruins of a Roman city founded by general Scipio Africanus after the Second Punic War. All indications point to this being the site of the Dragonpit, a ruin in King’s Landing where the Targaryen dynasty housed their dragons.
The first major spoilers came a few weeks ago, when set leaks indicated that Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) would meet with a delegation sent by Jon Snow, including Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) at the Dragonpit. This suggests two major developments. First, that Daenerys captures King’s Landing, driving out Queen Cersei and taking the Iron Throne for herself. Second, it promises an alliance between Dany and the North against whatever Lannisters are left.
But new leaks hint at something even more astounding: the possibility of a standoff between Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane and one of Dany’s dragons. According to Watchers on the Wall, some sort of major throwdown will happen at the Dragonpit. The nature of this fracas is unclear, but we know that The Mountain is involved in a big way, thanks to a tweet from Game of Thrones cast member and living human legend, Hafþór Björnsson:
Whatever is going down, The Mountain has a big role to play.
This could be many things. Perhaps Cersei has her last stand at the Dragonpit, with The Mountain holding off Daenerys’ forces while she retreats. Or maybe we’re finally getting Cleganebowl, with Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane facing off against his monstrous brother, Gregor.
But I have my preferred interpretation of this Season 7 set leak: The Mountain vs. Dragon. It is the Dragonpit after all. And we know Dany will be there in some capacity (though maybe not at the same time as Gregor). Still, all the pieces are in place for the strongest man in Westeros to go toe-to-claw with Drogon, Viserion and/or Rhaegal.
Even if The Mountain doesn’t get a crack at a dragon, there may be plenty more dragon action in store for Game of Thrones Season 7.
