2019 is the year of Microsoft and Nintendo’s partnerships. From the release of Cuphead on the Switch back in April, to the announcement of Banjo and Kazooie officially joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, the two gaming giants have been giving fans some very surprising collaborations. Now, you can officially add one more to the list as Microsoft and developer Moon Studios officially announced that the critically-acclaimed platformer Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition will soon be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made during Gamescom, and you can check out the accompanying trailer below.
If you haven’t by now, you should drop everything and put Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition at the top of your next-to-play list. The artistic and incredibly emotional journey of a platformer was first released for the Xbox One and PC in 2015. The game’s Definitive Edition came a year later, in March 2016, and included a ton of new areas, secrets, abilities, multiple difficulty modes and so much more.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition remains a landmark in video game excellence, and probably one of the most surprising things about it is it came from the publishing efforts of Microsoft, who is not exactly known for their independent titles. To be fair though, with ID @ Xbox currently running on all cylinders with some very interesting titles in the works, that may soon change, and we can only hope that those titles also make their way to what is undoubtedly currently the best console to play indies – the Nintendo Switch.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition will be releasing on the Switch on September 27. The highly-anticipated sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, will be releasing for the Xbox One and PC in 2020.
Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings at Gamescom all throughout the week.
