After weeks of teasing and speculating, the 2016 Governors Ball lineup has finally been announced, and it’s an exciting one. The headliners this year are an interesting choice, especially considering that The Strokes performed at the festival in 2014 while Kanye West headlined in 2013.
The last set of general admission (GA) passes to Governors Ball 2016 went on sale today at noon. As a way of encouraging fence sitters to make a decision, until midnight, tickets will be significantly cheaper before “prices will jump,” according to Governors Ball.
Governors Ball does not have a reputation of selling out on the first day, nor the second day (or even the thirtieth). Two years ago, GA passes sold out May 21, two weeks before the festival was scheduled to begin June 6-8. Last year, tickets once again sold out around at a rate, although Drake’s appearance disproportionately caused single day passes to sell out more quickly.
However if you’re short on cash and still feel like a nervous wreck leaving your 2016 Governors Ball ticket up in the wind, Governors Ball does offer a payment plan. Payments are split over four installments, with a required down payment of $116.25 followed by three more installments of $76.25 each.
That being said, don’t be too nervous if you’re waiting to purchase your ticket. Governors Ball typically sends out a heads-up when either the single or 3-day tickets are almost gone.
Celebrating its sixth anniversary as the premiere New York City music festival, Governors Ball is organized by Founders Entertainment.
Governors Ball recently petitioned the Major's Office and the CIty of New York to block AEG Live’s proposal to launch their own New York City festival, tentatively called Panorama. AEG Live, who organizes Coachella and FYF Fest in California, failed to secure the permits needed to operate the festival for 2016.
Unfortunately AEG Live already entered into an some sort of agreement with LCD Soundsystem to headline the New York City festival, and through twists and turns, it seems that LCD Soundsystem will now be headlining their own concert in New York City sometime later this year.
