Heists will finally be coming to GTA Online starting Tuesday (March 10), so we want to make sure you are ready for one of the most-anticipated features in gaming. Heists won't be as easy as accepting a new mission though, so here's what you will need to do first so you can start robbing banks as soon as possible.
Quick Checklist
If you just want the quick run-down of what you need to do, here you go. I'll explain each step further below if you are confused.
- Heist Leader must be level 12 or higher
- Heist Leader must own a high-end apartment with a planning board
- Heist Leader must have enough money to front the cost of the heist him/herself
Heist Leader
This role is arguably the most important role in any heist. The Heist Leader is a player who decides he or she wants to run their own heist mission. To do this, players must be level 12 or higher and own a high-end apartment with a planning board. From here, the Heist Leader gets to decide what heist to tackle, what players will take on each role, and how much of the final cut each player will take in. Heist progress is only saved with the Heist Leader, so make sure you follow a trusted Leader into battle.
Apartments
The Heist Leader will need a high-end apartment in order to organize a heist. Thanks to the GTA Wiki, we now have a full list of all of the high-end apartments, where they are located, and how much each one costs.

Other Players
While you don't get to do what you want on a heist, you should cater to a set of special skills. If you want to be the pilot, start pumping up your flying stats. If you want to be the sniper/lookout, get your shooting stats going. The Heist Leader will still get to ultimately decide your role, but at least you can make compelling arguments for your preferred positions. Also, all players including the Heist Leader will not be given special gear or vehicles to perform heists. This means that you may want to stock up on a variety of items like silenced guns, big trucks, smaller cars, melee weapons, and everything else to cover all of your bases. The Heists update will include new gear to unlock, but having some equipment beforehand is going to really help.
All Players
Rockstar stressed the importance for all players to be wearing a headset while playing Heists. This is to ensure active communication between all players involved. Communication will be key to performing a successful heist with timing and coordination of movements being crucial to certain tasks. Make sure you're wired up and ready to go.
Rockstar also detailed additional awards that players can win by participating in Heist missions. Each Heist will have a series of Elite Challenges. These harder challenges will ultimately result in a bigger cash reward upon completion, but they can be incredibly difficult. There are also a series of one-time challenges that players can earn. These are as follows:
- First Time – Completing each Heist Finale for the first time, will net you a bonus cash reward
- All In Order Challenge – Complete all Heists in order, including Setups, to receive a $1,000,000 cash bonus
- Loyalty Challenge – Complete all Heists, including Setups, with the same team of players to receive an additional $1,000,000 bonus
- Criminal Mastermind Challenge – Complete all Heists, in order, with the same group of players, without losing any lives, to receive a massive $10,000,000 bonus
So to get the absolute most money you can in GTA Online Heists, you need to do all five heists in order with the same group of friends while not dying and completing all of the Elite Challenges. This will maximize the potential profits you can earn by completing these missions.
So what do you think? Are you and your GTA Online crew going to be ready to take down institutions starting tomorrow, March 10? Which of the five confirmed heists are you most looking forward to? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
