Those eagerly awaiting Guild Wars 2’s next expansion must be patient since it will be delayed early next year, the company announced recently.
Developer ArenaNet announced that the End of Dragons expansion for Guild Wars 2 is delayed mainly due to “real-world challenges.”
John “JT” Taylor, studio director of ArenaNet, said: “As expansion development has progressed and the real-world challenges of the past year and a half have changed the way we live and work, it’s become clear that we need a little more time to deliver our creative vision for Cantha.”
To compensate for the expansion’s delay, Taylor announced an upcoming livestream on July 27 to give a glimpse of what End of Dragons has to offer.
What’s Expected to Happen in the Coming Months
According to the studio director, a large part of his work revolves around big and ambitious plans for the game. To bring those plans to life, he needs a partner to help him with everything, which is why Colin Johanson is brought back to the company as the co-lead director.
Besides Johanson, Josh “Grouch” Davis also returns as the game’s head of live operations.
For those of you who do not know, Johanson and Davis left ArenaNet to work on the now-canceled game, Crucible at Amazon. The co-lead director spent over 11 years working on the Guild Wars franchise as a game director and game designer.
Davis, on the other hand, worked as the associate global brand manager for the game before he left in 2016. So, it is only fitting that Davis will be handling the game’s live operations from here on out.
The ArenaNet team also detailed improvements on the technical aspects of the game. One of these is the game’s engine upgrade to DirectX 11. Although the DX11 will not magically boost frame rates, it could unlock other potentials, like better CPU threading performance.
Even though the game’s next expansion is delayed sometime next year, the return of two prominent people in the company means a lot in the game’s future.
Don’t forget, the next Guild Wars 2 live stream event will happen on July 27.
