This Xbox Series version of The House of the Dead: Remake will feature game graphics and performance adjusted on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. As it’s a native current-gen console release, it’s pretty much confirmed that the game will run at least 60 frames per second on both consoles, with all features of Xbox Series consoles thrown in as well.
The House of the Dead: Remake is a remake of the classic arcade shooter The House of the Dead, developed by Sega AM1 and first released in 1996. It has been credited for heavily popularizing the zombie genre trend that was prevalent in the late 1990s to 2000s alongside Resident Evil. Its concept of fast-moving and running zombies was also a first for the genre and was widely adopted in the next wave of zombie films and games. The House of the Dead’s popularity lead to four mainline sequels and numerous spin-offs; the most popular of the latter is The Typing of the Dead , a recreation of the original, tasking players to kill zombies by typing the words that appear on the screen, an innovative idea to improve typing skills for its time.
Feature-wise, The House of the Dead: Remake’s gameplay is very similar to the original in that it is a light gun/rail shooter. The controls and graphics are modernized, but it still retains features such as local multiplayer, the scoring system, and multiple endings depending on the final score. The remake also has several new features including a photo mode, achievements, an armory with unlockable weapons, a new game mode that pits players against hordes of zombies, and a gallery filled with encountered enemies and bosses.
