TNA Wrestling is in a holding pattern with the company’s ownership situation in flux. Reports have Billy Corgan in position to buy a majority stake in the company, bu until that deal comes to fruition, everyone just seems to be standing around waiting for news. Fortunately for TNA fans, the product is better than it's ever been with some of the best work in the company’s history taking place right now.
In what hopefully becomes a weekly feature, we will discuss Impact Wrestling and talk about three things from the show that was good, bad or just odd (which occurs sometimes on TNA). This week’s Impact Wrestling was a mix of good and bad. We are getting closer towards Bound for Glory, so the feuds and matches are solidified going into the final show before their pay-per-view next week. There were also some questions about some of the placement of the matches and overall layout of the show. Let’s start with the final segment.
EC3/Lashley Final Segment Feels Like The Biggest Match Of Their Careers
While the early build to the match was lukewarm at best, the last couple of weeks has seen the heat turned up on the EC3/Lashley feud. After the Lashley & Mike Bennett vs. EC3 & Moose tag match this week, EC3 and Lashley got into a brawl that had many X-Division wrestlers come out to separate them. This brought out Corgan to announce that there will be a Lethal Lockdown match next week and whoever’s team wins, the captain will be able to pick the stipulations for the Bound for Glory main event.
From the brawl, to the press conference, to the sheer trash talking between these two, the last month has built a TNA World Title match that will actually mean something. EC3 and Lashley faced each against one another numerous times, but this match feels different – like it’s the biggest match of their careers. I’ve been really impressed with the work from both of these guys, especially Lashley.
Still Not Sure About The Grand Championship
The build-up to the Grand Championship match between Aron Rex and Drew Galloway is great, but I am still having a hard time determining exactly what is the deal with this championship. Is it on the same level as the TNA World Championship or is it just a renamed TNA King of the Mountain Title?
The idea was to have a portion of the show that pushed the sports aspect of professional wrestling, but this title may not be the best way to do this. When the Grand Championship and TNA World Title unified in a year, then it was a bad idea.
Maria vs. Gail Kim Has Gone On Way Too Long
I think Maria Kanellis is one of the best heels in wrestling today, but her feud with Gail Kim has just dragged on and on. Gail is getting inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame next week and while that honor is deserved, I feel like the fans are just tired of her for some reason. The crowd is giving a bigger reaction to Allie over Gail Kim, even though Gail is a TNA staple.
The end game will be Gail Kim winning the TNA Knockouts Championship, but it is imperative that they find a monster heel to face off against her immediately after BFG in order for Gail Kim to get some of the momentum she has lost over the last couple of months.
After The Bell
- The renewed focus on the X-Division has been refreshing with DJ Z as the champion. A long reign is needed, along with great matches from him. What he also needs is a Samoa Joe-type who can wrestle the X-Division style and give him trouble in order to take the division to a higher level.
- Broken Matt Hardy will never get old. Broken Hardys vs. Decay is almost at the same level as EC3/Lashley and it has not disappointed. The match at BFG could be a showstealer and you know Broken Jeff will pull out something insane.
