Marvel Studios is a well-oiled machine that has its movie slate planned for the next five years. However, things change, and Marvel has been pretty good at keeping its plans fluid to accommodate both popular demand and its own vision.
When the Inhumans movie was first announced back in 2014 it was slated to release between the two Avengers: Infinity War movies. However, the standalone Spider-Man movie and a sequel to the surprise hit, Ant-Man, have pushed the Inhumans movie to 2019.
And now it seems the Inhumans movie is being delayed again.
In a Collider interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during the Captain America: Civil War pressers, he had this to say about the Inhumans movie:
“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.”
Collider even went further, asking whether the Inhumans appearing on Agents of SHIELD affects the movie plans, and specifically if Marvel Studios is scrapping the project, Feige said “ No, It’s a question of when.”
While Feige debunks Inhumans movie cancellation rumors, it doesn’t bode well for the property that has seen a big push in the comics. Perhaps Marvel will begin to tell a new story in Phase 4 of the MCU, centering around the Inhumans, once the conflict with Thanos is over.
For now this is all speculation, but Feige’s confirmation that the Inhumans movie is being pushed back again crushes any hope for the Inhumans to appear in the MCU movies anytime soon.
