The latest Watchtower Twitch stream for Injustice 2 revealed the first gameplay details for both Swamp Thing and Cheetah but the NetherRealm team also gave some updates and news about the game in general. The stream started with the NetherRealm team answering questions from Twitter. Here are some of the answers they gave:

  • Gear will not be earned in local multiplayer.
  • Injustice 2 mobile will come out before the console game (May 16).
  • There are set bonuses for gear like Batman’s Kryptonite gear that give 3, 4 and 5 set bonuses.
  • Gear will not break, no repairs needed.
  • Single-player in Injustice 2 is “very robust.”
  • There is no pay to win, only for visual things like shaders.
  • Premiere skins can be earned, but you can also pay for them. (Power Girl over Supergirl is an example.)
  • You can also take stats from one gear to transform it to a different gear.

It was also revealed that Robin will be the focus of the next Twitch stream that will be begin on March 22 at 4 p.m. EST. The Firestorm reveal trailer has been released as well, which you can watch below.

As for gameplay, Swamp Thing was the first character to get the spotlight during the stream. Swamp Thing has the longest sweep in the game and actually has two hits instead of one. You can also cancel the sweep and start a combo.

Swamp Thing also has a back medium attack, which is a forward charge that has options. You can summon another Swamp Thing as a low attack or shoot the thorns to give you extra protection if the charge misses.

This character also has a wooden club that you can either hit opponents up to launch them in the air or hit them low to mix it up. It is slow though, so beware.

Swamp Thing’s forward heavy and up heavy will allow Swamp Thing to “branch” out his limbs to push opponent’s back to prevent anyone from getting too close. Pocket Pollen is another power of Swamp Thing that lets him throw pollen in your opponent's face to stagger them and start combos.

Swamp Thing can kick a log from the ground to hit an opponent’s low. It is the closest he has to a traditional projectile. Its range is impressive, almost taking up the full screen.

The Bind attack lets Swamp Thing shoot tentacle vines in a variety of ranges from mid to long. Be careful though, you can whiff on the long-range attack, but if you catch the opponent it will deal a lot of damage, especially with a meteor burn.

Green Thumb is Swamp Thing’s close grab, which holds the enemy in place and can be comboed into different moves. You can also heal using this move or heal and attack.

Swamp Thing’s character power lets him summon red plants wherever he walks. These damage over time and restrict opponent’s movements. He can also summon a second Swamp Thing that can either push opponents from behind to set up grabs, or grab and hold them in a submission move.

The next character is Cheetah; here's how she plays in Injustice 2.

Cheetah is also a grappler, probably has the most amount of throws, but is not a long-range grappler. She wants to get in close and will appeal to the "maniac" players.

The Man-Grab throws the opponent to the floor for major damage or meteor burned to start a combo. She also has a low grab for those crouching. Primal Rage is a great wakeup attack as Cheetah does a rising claw attack.

She also has a Pounce attack that vary in range that allows Cheetah to close the gap while also launching aerial attacks. You can cancel to fake out opponents or just use it to move around the stage. Her dive bomb move lets her drop down on her opponents fast, and she can actually use it from her Pounce attack.

Her character power gives a damage buff for all of her claw-based attacks. It doesn't last long and has a long cooldown, but it gives a substantial damage buff.

Injustice 2 releases May 16.
