The iPhone 5se will be more powerful than assumed, with a processor chip that may rival the A9 and M9 chips used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and will have a storage capacity of up to 64GB, according to an updated report from 9to5Mac.
The higher processing chip power means the iPhone 5se could have the ability to use the ‘Hey, Siri’ always-on feature originally released with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. This also means the iPhone 5se would only be one generation removed from the processor powering of the iPhone 7, should Apple choose to upgrade the iPhone chip yet again for its release.
Last week, 9to5Mac reported the iPhone 5se will the same curved glass in the same style as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, support for Apple Pay and Touch ID, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera like in the iPhone 6, and the ability to take Live Photos, an iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus only feature.
9to5Mac's sources also claim , contrary to the rumors floating around, the iPhone 5se will not be released in a dozen colors like the iPhone 5c, but will instead be available in the same palette as the current iPhone. Meaning, Rose Gold, Silver and Space Grey.
It is unknown what the exact price of the iPhone 5se will be, but 9to5Mac's sources claim the iPhone 5se will replace the iPhone 5s at its current price point, which is $450 for the 16GB model and $499 for the 32GB model. The 32GB model is being replaced with a 64GB model.
It remains to be seen what Apple’s final plans will be, but a dedicated 4-inch screen-sized smartphone seems more and more likely for the iPhone lineup. Full details are expected to be announced by Apple during its March 2016 Event.
Apple did not respond to a request for a comment regarding the iPhone 5se and the possibility of a processor chip with a power the rivaling the A9/M9 chip currently used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
