Infamously reliable KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come out with a new report stating Apple will include a dual rear camera system with the iPhone 7 Plus, according to 9to5Mac. In the report, Kuo apparently states he doesn’t believe the 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 7 will have the dual rear camera system, saying Apple is more likely reserving the feature solely for the larger iPhone 7 Plus.
The possibility of a dual rear camera system for the iPhone 7 generation has been floating around the Internet for quite some time now. A recent patent application by Apple explicitly showcases the technology required to include a dual rear camera system for the iPhone 7, not to mention that Apple acquired LinX Imaging for around $20 million in April 2015, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Having a dual rear camera system would open the door to a world of possibilities camera-wise for the iPhone 7 Plus. This, including includes the ability to incorporate an optical zoom that would allow better magnification than possible with digital zoom, having higher resolution pictures being taken when recording in video mode or even having slow- motion video automatically recorded alongside regular video.
Before its acquisition, LinX Imaging was known in the tech world for championing the dual camera system as a way of squeezing every ounce of performance possible out of mobile smartphone cameras.
Also in the KGI report, according to 9to5Mac, is the possibility of not all iPhone 7 Plus models have the dual rear camera system. By placing a premium on iPhone 7 Plus models with the dual rear camera system, it would in effect create a new segmented market at the top of the price-chain for Apple.
