Electronic Arts came with quite the shocker of an announcement yesterday, revealing a new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man game. Being developed by Motive, the studio behind Star Wars: Squadrons, this Iron Man game is currently in the pre-production phase, and there’s no clear release window yet and confirmed platforms. That said, it will most likely arrive on next-gen consoles and PC in a few years.
The development team is being spearheaded by Olivier Proux, who had this to say in the official press release:
“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic super heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”
According to the same post, Proux is leading a team that boasts industry veterans such as Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier. Iron Man will feature an "original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man." It will apparently channel the character’s complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, as well as enable players to feel what it’s like to truly play Iron Man.
Motive Studio is currently working on a Dead Space remake, which will launch on consoles and PC on January 27, 2023. The team’s take on this iconic Marvel hero will no doubt be hotly anticipated. Up to now, Marvel’s Spider-Man is the reigning king of Marvel-related video games in the industry. If all goes well, this Iron Man title can become a very potent contender to the web-slinging hero. Proux’s leadership role is expected to also play a huge part in the game’s development, as his most recent credits include works on the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
This Iron Man game is also not a one-off thing. According to the post, Marvel and EA are collaborating on several new games, with this one being the first of many coming in the future.
