Yesterday was the official start of San Diego Comic-Con, and already there are many pieces of news dropping with regards to everyone’s favorites movies, franchises, comic books, and other pop culture goodness.
Kicking things off is of course Marvel Entertainment, a franchise that has dominated the world of cinema. Of course, with Avengers Endgame being the end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with Phase Four still some time away, all eyes in the gaming world are fixed on the franchise’s biggest commitment to video games yet: Marvel’s Avengers, as developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix.
The title was officially revealed earlier at E3, but did not have much going for it except a teaser trailer that provides the game’s backstory, a release date and the platforms it will launch on. A gameplay demo was shown behind closed doors which leaked, but that still left much to be desired for those eagerly waiting for the game.
Now, at SDCC 2019, it seems that fans still have to wait some more – unless you’re physically at the convention, of course. Marvel Entertainment held its panels and presentations yesterday at Hall H, including what is said to be an updated E3 gameplay demo that was debuted to its audience. Check out the tweet from Jeremy Conrad below.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that Kamala Khan, better known as Ms. Marvel, is featured in this updated gameplay demo. According to Conrad, she’s also wearing a Captain Marvel shirt, which could hint at the presence of the heroine, and also shows footage of her being exposed to Terrigen mist.
Her introduction into this game certainly makes sense, as it looks like the Avengers will rely on other heroes as Captain America is presumed dead and their team left humiliated and in shambles following A-Day. This also lines up with a rumor that was also noted in ResetEra, where the first playable characters would be Ms. Marvel, Iron Man and Hulk. It will be interesting to see which other Marvel characters will be added to the roster, as Marvel has noted that the game will receive free updates containing new regions and characters.
Marvel’s Avengers will be released on May 15, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
