Heads up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players! Someone is out for revenge joining the fight tomorrow. Tekken’s Kazuya Mishima is arriving in the game courtesy of the Challenger Pack 10 DLC. In addition to a new fighter, the DLC also brings a new stage and a selection of music tracks from Tekken.
Kazuya’s Moves
Despite his debut more than 25 years ago, Kazuya Mishima remains one of the most recognizable faces in the Tekken series. It is truly interesting to see Kazuya transition from fighting enemies in a 3D plane and join a game where battles are done in 2D. This particular change in the dimensions means that Kazuya gets a special skill set.
Kazuya’s main attacks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are quite similar to his fighting moves in Tekken. However, to give him smash attacks, midair jumps, and special moves in a 2D environment, he gets to use his Devil’s Power. In later versions of Tekken, Kazuya gets to transform into a winged demon. So in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he gets to activate Devil’s Power to perform those aforementioned combat moves.
New Stage
The new stage coming with Kazuya is the Mishima Dojo. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s owned by the Mishima family, particularly Heihachi, Kazuya’s father. The dojo is closed off in every direction, but the walls and ceiling can be broken with strong attacks, which turn the stage into dangerous terrain. Unlike other stages, this one has no floating platforms, so players need to come up with new strategies to win.
In a statement, Nick Chavez at Nintendo revealed that with Kazuya joining the roster, it marks a character from another franchise joining the game. He added that the new fighters added by the DLC offer new ways to fight, new strategies to create, and new skills to learn.
Besides a new character and a new stage, 39 music tracks from the Tekken series are available. The songs come from earlier and more recent games.
The Challenger Pack 10 DLC is available for $29.99. It features Kazuya, Min Min (ARMS), Steve & Alex from (Minecraft), Sephiroth (Final Fantasy), and Pyra/Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2). There’s also one more character arriving later this year. Players can buy the fighters separately for $5.99.
