Squad's space flight simulator Kerbal Space Program sees you take control of a budding space program that employs solely green, humanoid aliens called Kerbals. It's a challenging, occasionally hilarious sim that originally released via Steam Early Access back in 2013. Now, console players are getting Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition in January 2018, a version of the game with a host of augments.
The Enhanced Edition will include a revamped user interface, controls and a series of other augments specifically for the console version. Publisher Private Division hasn't divulged exactly what that will entail just yet, but has assured fans it will reveal additional details further down the line.
For the uninitiated, Kerbal Space Program lets you build an array of spaceships from various parts at your disposal. You're tasked with building a spaceworthy vessel that won't immediately fall back to the planet and explode or leave your poor Kerbal astronaut to die a fiery death or suffocate. If you fail, don't worry. You can always try again. Figuring out the best way to get your Kerbal crew into orbit and to their destination is a huge part of the game, and as you soar through the cosmos to far away moons and planets, there's a real sense of accomplishment.
Kerbal Space Program offers three game modes, including Science Mode, which has you trying out various experiments to open up access to new tech. Career Mode puts you in charge of the titular Kerbal space exploration program and all aspects of it. Sandbox Mode lets you play around with all the parts available at your disposal so you can better figure out how all the parts work together.
You don’t have to wait until January if you want to try out the game, of course. It’s available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in its original format. If you want to try out the new version, you’ll have time to practice sparing your Kerbals from death in the meantime.
