LCD Soundsystem will play a single live concert in New York City in 2016, and you can’t help but wonder who will be their openers. The news trickles down from Consequence Of Sound, who is reporting that several sources say “that the impetus for LCD Soundsystem’s decision to reunite so soon after their highly publicized farewell came thanks to a lucrative, multi-million dollar offer from AEG Live.”
That "lucrative, multi-million dollar offer” included headliner spots for the sold-out 2016 Coachella Festival and the FYF Fest in Los Angeles, and also for AEG Live’s planned-but temporarily-defunct New York festival, Panorama.
According to the Consequence Of Sound, AEG Live failed to secure the correct permits for the festival’s inaugural debut, meaning that Panorama is dead in the water until 2017 at the earliest.
However, LCD Soundsystem is still planning for a New York City event. LCD Soundsystem will be headlining their own concert somewhere in the five boroughs of New York City sometime in 2016.
Reuniting seems to have been a good financial idea for LCD Soundsystem. The band has reportedly signed several more offers with major music festivals in both Europe and the U.S. since the Coachella 2016 news broke, and while there haven’t been any rumors of a new possible album, let’s all collectively hold our breaths.
Christmas Will Break Your Heart, a new song by LCD Soundsystem, was released this past Christmas Eve to much ado. A few days afterward, news broke that LCD Soundsystem was planning on headlining Coachella 2016 with Guns N’ Roses.
Considering that Coachella 2016 pre-sale tickets have been sold out since mid-2015, anyone hoping to see LCD Soundsystem live will need either a plane ticket to New York City or a pass to FYF Fest. However, more passes will reportedly be put on sale Jan. 6 for Coachella 2016, so keep an eye out at 11 a.m. that Wednesday.
