The turn-based role-playing game by developer Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, has just received a new gameplay trailer, aptly titled “Trial by Fire”. The trailer's 1 minute 45 second clip showcased snippets from the title’s gameplay systems, along with fresher graphics and new voice work for its characters.
The third title in The Legend of Heroes series of role-playing games, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, revolves around the events after its prequel Trails of Cold Steel II. You play as main character Rean Schawarzer, a military professor, along with his friends from his military school days.
As with any turn-based RPG, the combat system is arguably its most delicate part. New features include Brave Order, a battle status that provides party-wide buffs to give your squad the upper hand for a certain number of rounds. These are usable at any point within the battle and consume Brave points when issued. Link Attacks are also included, which is a way to seamlessly complement your squad’s attacks or spells. Brave points are consumed when using “Burst” or “Rush” in Link Attacks and gained when performing an “Assist” during combat, so its advisable to be wise when using them.
“Arts and Crafts” is also a fundamental basis of combat for Trails of Cold Steel III. The way it works is Arts draw power from equipped orbments and manifest in elemental attacks. They are similar in offense, but are unique for each character. S-Crafts is a specialized Craft that consumes all of the character’s Craft Points (CP). S-Crafts have cool and unique animations, so be sure to watch them if you decide to spend your points on it.
Originally released in Japan in 2017, Trails of Cold Steel III's western release will be headed by publishing giant Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) America. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is a must have for any RPG fan, and will be available for the PlayStation 4 on September 24 in North America and September 27 in Europe.
