FX’s new tv series, Legion, isn’t the only X-Men tv show in the works. There’s a second and both have ties to future X-Men movies, executive producer Bryan Singer told The Hollywood Reporter. Both “will relate to future X-Men movies” and have a “really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline.”
Singer didn’t speak directly on the recent Marvel/X-Men multiverse speculation, but he did say both new X-Men series are "part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it, it could exist completely on its own."
Speculation began at San Diego Comic-Con when Legion was hyped as a Marvel show, with Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb listed as an executive producer. Marvel even lists Legion as a new MCU character. Not to mention Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige keep talking about the ‘Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.’ Hoping for some sort of Sony-Marvel deal after Spider-Man’s cameo in Captain America: Civil War , fan speculation rose about an X-Men cameo in Avengers: Infinity War until ComicBook.com caught up with director Joe Russo to clarify he hasn’t had a conversation with Fox.
Now that Hellfire isn’t happening, it’s unclear what new show the X-Men franchise has in store next. Legion premieres in early 2017. Watch the trailer below.
Legion follows David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and visions might be real.
