Ben Affleck may be the best part about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but even then, it’s looking unlikely he’ll top the genius of Will Arnett in the upcoming Lego Batman Movie. By now, you’ve probably heard reports of DC’s latest blockbuster failure. It’s apparent that the comic company needs to cut its losses and fully invest in marketing The Lego Batman Movie. It seems like the only hope for redemption.
The new Lego Batman Movie trailer swoops in like the proper Dark Knight it stars. Instead of crying upon the realization that the $17 ticket you bought for Dawn of Justice was effectively a waste, direct your attention to the first teaser that will make you smile again. Arnett has the bat-voice spot on, and if the original Lego Movie is anything to go by, Batman’s version should be just as funny.
The Lego Batman Movie features the voices of some of your favorite comedians. In addition to Arnett in the titular role, get ready for Michael Cera as Robin and Zach Galifianakis as the freakin’ Joker. Still not impressed? Don’t forget Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred the Butler and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange. I’d expect plenty of surprise cameos as well, if I were you.
There’s no official synopsis of The Lego Batman Movie as of now, but it’s understood to be a direct spin-off of 2014’s The Lego Movie, which shocked the world with just how good it was. However, Screen Rant recently described how Arnett’s Batman as a “brooding bore too clueless to acknowledge how lonely he is — until his world is ‘up-ended’ by the arrival of Robin and Batgirl.” They also included a quote from director Chris McKay:
Batman is an island onto himself, the only thing he doesn’t have is relationships. We’re making ‘About a Boy’ as directed by (action director) Michael Mann.
Interesting. Well, no matter how the plot turns out in The Lego Batman Movie, one thing’s for sure - it’s gotta be better than Batman v Superman. Right?
The Lego Batman Movie arrives in theaters Feb. 10, 2017.
