With the second season of Daredevil almost here (March 18) and the casting news regarding Iron Fist , the Luke Cage series is going relatively unnoticed by fans of the Marvel and Netflix series.
Outside of some casting news , the Luke Cage series has gone under the radar since we were first introduced to the character in Jessica Jones.
However, during the Season 2 red carpet for Daredevil in New York, Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage sat down with Marvel and dropped the release date for his upcoming Netflix series.

Previous reports had the Luke Cage premiere date set for November , but it seems the production of the next Netflix series has gone swimmingly and has been pushed up to Sept. 30.
Early reports and speculation has the Luke Cage series dealing with the titular character’s past, while also pushing the character forward in the Netflix/Marvel universe. In Jessica Jones , Luke already has his powers and left (presumably to do his own show) toward the end of the first season.
The reported synopsis for Luke Cage goes as such:
“Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.”
