A 9to5Mac commentator by the name of Cameron has created a concept rendering of what the new MacBook Pro could look like if the recent leaks showcasing an OLED touchpad (or touchbar) above the keyboard are true.
The leaked photos showing the existence of an OLED touchbar on the MacBook Pro were sent anonymously to Cult of Mac by a source claiming to work for an Apple Chinese manufacturing partner. While the leaked photos didn’t include the actual OLED touchbar, it did point out where the touchbar would be placed in relation to the keyboard.
This touchbar, made of the same display technology included with the Apple Watch, would act as customizable, virtual buttons, replacing the row keys currently dedicated to the function keys like the volume control. Another picture shows an even larger area to the right of the board keys that could house a version of this OLED display with the same side length as the keyboard, leaving the door to what’s possible with something like that completely open.
Cameron’s concept image of the rumored OLED touchbar drives in the cool factor in a way the leak photos just can’t and it’s worth checking it out to catch a glimpse of what the future has in store for laptop design.
Infamously accurate KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple will introduce secondary or third OLED touchpads to the MacBook Pro sometime during the fourth quarter of this year.
