Another week and another Madden NFL 17 player rating update. This week numerous players see both the good and bad end of the rating stick. New names are featured on this week’s list as injuries are starting to take out many players deep into this NFL season. Names like Andrew Adams (New York Giants), Trey Flowers (New England Patriots) and Blake Martinez (Green Bay Packers) are some of the new faces making an impact in Madden and Madden Ultimate Team.
This week’s iDigitalTimes rating update features a starting quarterback beginning to take a dip and a running back who has been a non-factor the entire season for a team in Florida . Doug Martin, HB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (down two points to 88 Overall)
As someone who drafted Martin in Fantasy Football this season, I can attest to the pain and suffering that is Doug Martin. Martin missed six games so far this season and his return to the Buccaneers last week featured 23 yards on seven carries so Martin is not a factor to the Buccaneers this season. This week saw Martin’s Madden ratings drop for awareness by seven (89) and his BC vision rating fall two points (92). This season has and will be a wash for Martin so looking at other running backs within Madden could be a better option for those looking for a back.
Vontaze Burfict, ROLB, Cincinnati Bengals (up four to 83 Overall)
One of the more polarizing players in the NFL, Burfict has played extremely well since returning from a three-game suspension to start the season. In just six games this season, Burfict has 50 tackles and one sack and his performance this season has contributed to his Madden ratings going up in many different areas. Awareness (up two), block shedding (up six) and man coverage (up 12) are among the changes in Burfict’s rating as he has made himself a very appealing option in Madden NFL 17 if you are able to pick him up in Ultimate Team.
Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (down one to 79 Overall)
Everyone calls Smith a good NFL quarterback but not many have yet to see this. Smith has always been a game manager from his time with the 49ers until now and that’s all he can do. This week Smith saw his Madden rating fall as his mid-range throw accuracy fall along with his speed, agility and acceleration. If you do earn an Alex Smith card in Ultimate Team and you are considering starting him with your team, you have to be sure that you a good to great running back because Smith will not win you many games. He’s a team quarterback so you need to have a good team surrounding Smith in order to be successful.
