As we move into the start of the NFL season, the folks working on Madden NFL 17 has watched more football than Jon Gruden this preseason. The Madden team is working hard to make sure their initial player ratings are on the mark. EA Sports got it right with most players EA Sports, and with others, they’ve discussed their Madden rating on Twitter .
On Friday, the new Madden ratings were released going into Week 1 of the NFL season. There were some major movers and shakers on the list, so let’s begin with the biggest name coming out of the NFL Preseason playing for America’s Team:
Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys (up 3 points to 74 overall)
After the injury to Tony Romo during Week 3 of the preseason, Prescott was thrust into the starting quarterback spot after an impressive preseason. Throwing no interceptions during the preseason, Prescott had seven total touchdowns in addition to over 450 passing yards. While his overall number went up by three, his awareness also went up three points as well, adding to his pocket presence when a pass rush is coming at him.
Joey Bosa, DE, San Diego Chargers (down 3 points to 76 overall)
This rating drop has a lot under the surface to look at it. Bosa, who held out from training camp due to a contract dispute, was a highly rated rookie beginning at almost an 80 overall upon being drafted. With him missing camp, his overall dropped to 76 and his awareness fell six points also. This drop may be the result of Bosa not playing much in the last five weeks and many not knowing how good he is against NFL competition. Take this rating with a grain of salt and wait a few weeks to see if it goes up or down.
Trevor Siemian, QB, Denver Broncos (up 9 points to 70 overall)
Trevor Siemian was a 61 overall when the game was released. Things change when you are named the starting quarterback of the defending Super Bowl champions. Siemian beat out Mark Sanchez and became the number one quarterback for the Broncos. A nine point jump is an insane leap, but for a starting quarterback in Madden, it’s needed. What’s also needed is a quarterback with a high awareness rating, which for Siemian went up 11 points to 68. Time will tell whether his numbers go up even more but in Madden terms, you have a manageable quarterback to play with.
Khalil Mack, LE, Oakland Raiders (up 3 points to 97 overall)
Mack is one of the best defensive players in the league and while his overall went up, his awareness dropped to 82. This may be a case of his position changing to Left End from Linebacker. Honestly, there’s no conversation...Khalil Mack is great.
