Konami hasn’t been very forthcoming with new information on its upcoming Metal Gear spin-off, Metal Gear Survive. But we finally have a timeline for the publisher’s first survival game. And the lack of public discussion clearly wasn’t indicative of the effort Konami has put behind the project, because today we learned Metal Gear Survive is only three and a half months away.
According to a new press release, Metal Gear Survive heads to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in late February. Konami’s desperate attempt to stay relevant, following the departure of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, will only be $39.99 at launch. Today’s announcement also revealed a few morsels of new information on the game. We already knew Survive would pick up shortly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes -- yes, all of this zombie nonsense is allegedly happening while Big Boss battles giant robots in Afghanistan -- but we don’t recall hearing about “crop growing” and “animal rearing” before this week’s update. There’s also apparently a difference between MGS’s solo and cooperative campaigns, the latter of which allows up to four people to join forces online.
We also received early details on the bonus content Konami will offer to those who pre-order a copy of Metal Gear Survive. Here’s everything we’ll find in the Survival Bonus Pack, via press release:
4 gold plated weapons: Bat, Sledgehammer, Survival Machete and Survival Spear
4 metallic coloured survival scarves: Green, Blue, Pink and Silver
2 gestures: “Thumbs Up” and “Happy”
Mother Base nameplate
"BOXMAN [THE ORANGE]” accessory
“Kabuki” face paint
