Metro Exodus is enjoying its release, even though the game received considerable backlash from fans after the whole Epic Games Store debacle. That said, months later, it’s still garnering attention, this time for its gameplay and what players can hope to see in the future.
After its release in February of this year and the subsequent Ranger Update a month after, fans are still left wondering on what they can expect from the title in terms of DLC. It looks like we won’t have to wait for further confirmation from Deep Silver, Metro Exodus’ publisher, as they have released some new information regarding the upcoming DLCs for the game in the form of a content roadmap.
The roadmap, though a bit devoid of promotional material like an actual roadmap photo, was released on the game’s website. According to the post, there will be two available story-driven DLCs for the game, which follow brand-new stories completely detached from the main Metro Exodus campaign. The first of these lets you play as a brand-new character, instead of Artyom. The second one will see you play as Sam, one of the Spartan Rangers and the only American in Aurora.
The Two Colonels is the first of these DLCs, which let you play as Colonel Khlebnikov as he journeys under the dead city of Novosibirsk as he makes his way home to his son Kirill for New Year’s Eve.
“Following the journey and experiences of Khlebnikov during the last days of life in Novosibirsk, which Colonel Miller retraces a year later, players can expect the classic story-driven gameplay of the Metro series in this new linear chapter, complete with a brand new weapon, the deadly flame-thrower, claustrophobic environments, and the all-too-familiar hair-raising tension,” the Metro developers wrote in the roadmap post.
Sam’s Story is the second piece of DLC, coming to players in early 2020. It’s a bit different in that it is a brand-new sandbox survival level based on Vladivostok. The titular Sam hears the news that Moscow was not the only city left with survivors following the war, so he sets out on a journey to return home.
“Sam makes his way away from the Aurora in search of a way back to the USA, arriving at the remains of Vladivostok’s tsunami ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings, and crumbling residential districts," the post reads. "To complete his journey, Sam will discover that he needs every tactic he has learned so far to survive, as his surroundings prove to be far trickier than expected.”
Metro Exodus is now available to play on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store on PC.
