Minecraft fans will vote on the next mob we’ll see in Mojang’s hit sandbox game as part of this weekend’s MineCon Earth celebrations, and the studio is already showing the potential additions on Twitter. But it’ll be a few more days before the Minecraft community can offers its opinion on the four new mobs created by the dev team.
The first of four potential new Minecraft monsters was unveiled on Monday morning, via the game’s Twitter account. The “Monster of the Ocean Depths” would reside deep underwater and poses a unique threat to the player. Rather than directly attack the player, the Monster uses its long, tentacle-like tongue to latch onto players and keep them trapped below the water’s surface until they drown. The creature uses its mouth to propel itself through the water, rather than bite prey, and Mojang hopes the new creature could add a bit of mystery to otherwise lackluster underwater environments.

The second potential addition to Minecraft is currently known as the “Monster of the Night Sky.” The flying creature would be much larger than the birds we occasionally see in Minecraft now and much more dangerous than most of the other creatures wandering the surface. It looks a bit like a manta ray but spawns at high altitudes and is “attracted to insomnia.” The Monster of the Night Sky would be particularly troublesome for players who like to go multiple days without returning home to sleep. It attacks by diving towards prey and biting the target.

Next up is a quadruped known as “The Great Hunger.” Easily the cutest of the bunch -- it looks a bit like Mojang’s version of Gon from Tekken 3 -- the Great Hunger also takes a more indirect approach to inconveniencing Minecraft players. Rather than attack directly, Great Hungers burrow into the ground, leaving an opening to expose their large mouths to the surface, and consume any items or equipment that happen to fall in. The creature would also have unique enchanting powers that could be repurposed by Minecraft players.

Last, but certainly not least, Mojang revealed the Hovering Inferno, a “master blaze” that would add a new challenge to the Nether. Hovering Infernos would spawn with a group of blazes and would be capable of deflecting incoming attacks with the large, shield-like appendage floating below its head. It’s also capable of generating a powerful shockwave attack and Mojang says players will need substantial fire resistance to challenge the Hovering Inferno.

Voting won’t begin until Saturday, Nov. 18, during Microsoft and Mojang’s MineCon Earth live stream. But that doesn’t mean we can’t debate the merits of each potential addition ahead of time. Which mob do you want to see added to Minecraft down the road?
