It's been a few months since we've had a reason to write about a Minecraft mod. But it's not everyday that the newest addition to the Overwatch roster is unleashed upon the Minecraft community, complete with his ultimate and other special abilities.

The mod was created by YouTube content creator and redditor McMakistein, who you may be familiar with from his work on similar mods inspired by other members of the Overwatch roster. Before setting his sights on Doomfist, McMakistein managed to create noticeably blockier versions of Genji, Hanzo, Lucio, Reaper and Tracer in Mojang’s hit sandbox game. Now he’s imported a sixth member of the roster, joining the litany of people ready to help spread the word about Doomfist in whatever form they can. It also means he’s recreated enough characters to field a full team, which we can only hope means that someone(s) is busy recreating maps and programming match rules for a proper Overwatch mod.

If you’re wondering why we’re bothering to write about a character skin in Minecraft, given the number available for download in various repositories, it’s because this isn’t just a cosmetic change. McMakistein’s Doomfist does look astoundingly similar to the real thing, a noteworthy accomplishment given Minecraft’s decidedly low-res look. But it’s especially impressive because Minecraft Doomfist has all the same abilities as his FPS counterpart and was recreated without using any mods. Instead, McMakistein used more than 400 command blocks to bring Doomfist’s dashing uppercut into the world’s most popular sandbox.

For more information on the mod, including download and installation instructions, head over to the official Minecraft sub-reddit. We’ve also embedded a brief preview, recorded by McMakistein and uploaded to gfycat, showing Doomfist in action.

Minecraft is currently available on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and a plethora of smart devices.
