Mecha fans unite! Publisher Bandai Namco has just announced that its mecha fighting title Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 will be released in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4. No date has been confirmed yet, but the publisher assured that it will launch at some point in 2019.
A trailer has been released along with the announcement, and so far, it looks pretty badass. Customization options for both your mecha and your pilot are available. I don’t know why your hairstyle would matter if you’re commandeering 100 tons of steel in the desert, but it’s certainly a nice addition to have. The 90 second clip showcased multiple fight scenes, with sword swinging and gun wielding action abound. Some scenes are set in a desert landscape, while some take place in the outer reaches of space.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 is expected to bring new elements to the table, such as updated systems, new battle mechanics and improved customization options. A new mode called Infantry Battles has also been added, which gives players an option to commandeer different vehicles to take part alongside their favorite mechas battles. Think of it as a glorified observer’s mode while you watch your mecha in awe. A currency system called Development Points will also allow players to create the mecha of their dreams.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 was released last year in Japan, Taiwan and Korea. Although westerners almost always seem to experience a delayed release for Japanese titles, it most certainly is welcome news that the free-to-play multiplayer mecha fighting game is coming its way to North America and Europe.
As the 2019 Anime Expo comes to a close, fans of Bandai Namco and their titles could not be happier from the way it turned out. Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition’s scheduled September release, an upcoming Alpha test for highly anticipated RPG Blue Protocol, and a Ufotable-produced opening cinematic for the upcoming anime Souls-like Code Vein have all been too much news and excitement for this week to fit in.
