Capcom says the PC version of Monster Hunter: World will arrive this fall, months after the game heads to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s far from the first time we’ve seen major multi-platform games released like this, the most recent being Destiny 2, but the news is still disappointing to all those eager to get their hands on the series’ first PC release.
The new timeline for the Monster Hunter: World PC port comes via a new Capcom developer diary. The video, which features MHW Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, is only 96-seconds long and doesn’t include any new gameplay footage. The producer recommits to the console launch date, which is just a few weeks away, but says Capcom still can’t offer anything more specific than an “Autumn 2018” timeline for the PC port. We’ve long expected the PC version to arrive at least a month or two after the console builds, to give Capcom time to address any major issues that arise at launch. Still, it’s a bit surprising to hear that Monster Hunter, which relies on community support/participation, will need an extra six months to be ready for Steam.
Tsujimoto also promised free updates for Monster Hunter: World -- something Capcom has been touting since the game was announced -- will arrive after launch. Unfortunately, the new video didn’t include any word on the long-awaited (but still unconfirmed) PC beta; however, the Monster Hunter: World producer did say additional information on the Steam build will arrive at a later date. So it’s possible we’ll hear more about the PC beta (if there is one) a bit closer to fall.
