NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind the latest Mortal Kombat games and the Injustice franchise, is getting ready to launch Mortal Kombat 11, the newest title in one of the most popular fighting game franchises of all time. NetherRealm hasn’t been all too vocal about the game, so there’s bound to be a lot of hype and speculation before the actual launch on April 23. After the latest announcements from NetherRealm Studios, here’s everything we know about Mortal Kombat 11 so far.
Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on April 23, 2019 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. This marks first NetherRealm game to make it to Nintendo's hybrid console/handheld platform, not to mention the first title in the Mortal Kombat franchise to do so as well.
The game’s roster brings both old and new characters into the mix, featuring characters such as Sub-Zero and Scorpion that have been around since the very first Mortal Kombat game came out in 1997. All-new characters join the fight as well, such as Geras, a fighter who uses time-based attacks in his fights. There are 13 confirmed characters in the game so far, with some characters rumored to make a re-appearance in the latest installment to the fighting-game franchise.
Although the game doesn’t come out until April, fans of the franchise have already begun to pre-order Mortal Kombat 11, reaping some great bonuses in the process. There are three editions of the game available: The Standard Edition and Premium Edition are both available on PC, but the $300 Kollector’s Edition seems to be exclusive to PS4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch version of the game, however, only comes in the Standard Edition. Pre-ordering the game regardless of edition gives users exclusive access to Shao Kahn as a playable character as well as access to the game’s closed beta phase, which is set to begin on March 28.
