You’re probably wondering when the Mr. Robot Season 3 release date is, now that you’ve finished the Mr. Robot Season 2 finale (and watched that weird post-credits scene). You’re not alone. But even though USA hasn’t confirmed when the Mr. Robot Season 3 premiere will be, we’ve got a theory about the premiere not related to the plot at all. No, this theory is about the wild world of television ratings and the almighty Nielsen sweeps , which give us our best hint at when we can expect Mr. Robot Season 3 to begin.
For starters, we look at the history of Mr. Robot premieres. The pilot debuted on May 27, 2015 but the first season didn’t officially start until June 24. The second season of Mr. Robot began on July 13, 2016. So we know it’ll almost certainly be a summer show for USA. Based on previous seasons the spread appears to be between May - July 2017. And this is where the Nielsens come in.
If you don’t already know, the Nielsen ratings more or less determine the advertising value of a show. And sweeps weeks are the periods when Nielsen is known to be gathering data on what people are watching, then use said data to figure out what the airtime for a particular show is worth. It’s common for networks to bring their biggest, best shows and cliffhangers during sweeps weeks. These only occur four times a year (November, February, May and July) and both the pilot of Mr. Robot and the premiere of Season 2 occurred during sweeps periods .
With this in mind, we will timidly predict a Mr. Robot Season 3 release date of May 24, 2017. Why a Mr. Robot premiere on May 24, 2017? Because the Nielsen sweeps period for May 2017 is expected to end Wednesday May 24, 2017 . This gives USA a huge boost for the show since the largest audience is most likely to be the one tuning in for the Mr. Robot Season 3 premiere. The network can put its best foot forward and not worry about some huge drop-off if the premiere disappoints the fanbase and they don’t return for the next episode.
