MSI is already a reputable brand when it comes to producing computer hardware like motherboards, graphics cards, gaming monitors, and other devices. The brand is now coming up with an innovative 240Hz IPS portable gaming display named Optix MAG161.
The Optix MAG161 is like a laptop display, but without the laptop. MSI hasn’t officially said anything about this tech as of now, but according to the CES award page, the Optix MAG161 is “crafted as a small form factor with a slim 5mm vibrant 240Hz IPS panel.” The display is also said to support both HDMI and USB Type-C connections.
Additional information for the Optix MAG161 can be found on the Spanish website El Chapuzas Informático. The website claims that the monitor consists of a 15.6” IPS panel with 1920x1080 resolution and 3ms of response time (gray-to-gray).
It must also be noted that Asus introduced the ROG Strix Go XG17 earlier this year, which could stand in competition with the Optix MAG161. The ROG Strix Go XG17 is almost identical to the Optix MAG161, but only slightly bigger in terms of screen size (17.3” display).
Asus marketed the ROG Strix Go XG17 by stating that the display can allow you to experience a superior gaming experience even when you’re traveling. The display can also serve as an extension to your Windows desktop and can be easily hooked to a laptop, game console, or even your phone. MSI could come up with a similar marketing pitch since both displays seem to carry similar hardware and features.
It is expected that the MSI Optix MAG161 will launch after Black Friday sales. Since Asus has yet to launch the ROG Strix Go XG17, we could expect to see both these portable displays launching at the same time.
