Narcos Season 2 premiered on Netflix just a few days ago, but the red streaming giant has already secured the series for a third and fourth season. The announcement confirms speculation Narcos would continue even though Pablo Escobar dies in Season 2.
“The show was never about Pablo Escobar. It was always about the drug war, and the drug war continues on. In fact, it continues on into the present,” executive producer Eric Newman told USA TODAY after the announcement.
If history is any indication, the series will continue with the Cali Cartel’s rise to power now that the Medellin Cartel is done. Picking right up where Escobar left off at the end of Season 2, Cali ‘godfathers’ Helmer ‘Pacho’ Herrera and Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela are well on their way to taking over the cocaine business.
“Pablo Escobar is a small chapter in the many, many, many, many different players and situations in the last 30 years that have defined the cocaine business,” Newman said during an interview with Indiewire.”From the very beginning, from our earliest days of talking about this, it was Medellin, into Cali, into Mexico. The band plays on. “
José Padilha and Eric Newman will say on as executive producers. No release date has been set for Season 3. Stream all 10 episodes of Narcos Season 2 on Netflix.
