Warriors Gaming Squad grabbed its first NBA 2K League championship by beating the 76ers GC 58-39 at the end of THE TURN. The win gives Warriors Gaming a large share of the $180,000 prize pool and THE TURN trophy.
The team’s roster is composed of Charles “CB13” Bostwick as Point Guard, Alexander “Bsmoove” Reese as Shooting Guard, and “Xavier “Type” Vescovi as Center. The remaining members are Samuel “Gradient” Salyers, Jin “Jin” Choe, and Chiquita “Chiquitae26” Evans, all as small forwards.
Entering the championship round, the 76ers were ready to take the organization's second championship. However, Warriors Gaming took an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The lead continued to grow, albeit slowly, but Warriors Gaming protected its lead and never let up. At the end of the third quarter, Warriors Gaming was ahead 43-28.
For Warriors Gaming, the team experienced an excellent performance from Type, who was named tournament MVP. He not only went 7-for-7 from the field, but also managed four steals and grabbed 13 rebounds. Type’s game was so good that he limited the 76ers’ Alexander “Steez” Bernstein to only 16 points. In an interview, Type said that both he and Bsmoove have worked enough to reach this points and that “it feels great to be rewarded with a championship.”
At the end of the tournament, Type averaged 13.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. He was helped by Bsmoove, who averaged 16.3 points per game and CB13, who contributed 12.3 points per game and 9.0 assists per game.
THE TURN is the second of three tournaments spread out across the NBA 2K League season. THE TURN is a single-elimination tournament participated by all 21 teams and conducted over the course of three days. The first tournament was THE TIPOFF, with the 76ers walking away as the top team. The last tournament is THE TICKET.
This year’s THE TURN was held at the HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor Hotel and Casino. This is the first time that NBA 2K League games were held outside of its New York City location.
