A total of 12 WNBA teams, consisting of around 140 players, are set to make their debut in NBA 2K20. The WNBA is available in both the Play Now and the Season modes. Fans of the franchise have the chance to control their favorite WNBA players and experience play styles, visuals, and gameplay animations all built exclusively around the women’s league.
According to developer 2K, many of the top superstars of WNBA, like A’ja Wilson and Candace Parker, have been scanned to the game. 2K made use of the best-in-class motion capture technology in order to ge the most realistic simulation on the market.
Los Angeles Sparks forward Parker said in a press release that she remembered watching male athletes on TV and playing as them in video games growing up. With this new feature, she added that “to have the WNBA be in the position we are and to have women featured prominently in NBA 2K20, we are allowing young girls and boys to have female athletes as role models.” She related that she is proud to be part of the team that is paving the way for the future and that the “2K team has done an amazing job of making sure to not just put women into the game playing men’s basketball, but I’ve seen first-hand the hard work they’re doing to make this as real and authentic as possible to women’s basketball.”
Visual Concepts SVP of Development Jeff Thomas shared that fans have long requested to be given the chance to play as their favorite WNBA starts. He related that they have “been working with the WNBA and their top players to modify our basketball simulation engine to replicate the WNBA on-court experience.”
All game modes that feature the WNBA are going to be available to play when NBA 2K20 gets it worldwide release this September 6.
