Doctor Strange is the next Marvel film due in theaters. It’ll be the first of its kind, introducing the darker side of the Marvel Universe to the big screen. It looks like we’ll be delving deep into Stephen Strange’s origins and how he came to be the Sorcerer Supreme, the Earth’s protector of all interdimensional mystical and magical threats.
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe. Dr. Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), discovers the world of magic after meeting the Ancient One, portrayed by Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia) . Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) stars in an unnamed role opposite Cumberbatch, and Hannibal’ s Mads Mikkelsen as a mystery villainous character. Benedict Wong (Marco Polo) will play Strange’s sidekick, Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) a familiar adversary named Karl Mordo.
This will be the first time we’ll see Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum in live action. His trippy, three-story abode in New York’s historic neighborhood, Greenwich Village, was at one point home to both the New Avengers and Defenders.
We’ll know more about what’s in store for Doctor Strange come San Diego Comic-Con in late July, before the film arrives in theaters Nov. 4.
