In an interview with Collider, Laurence Fishburne described his role in John Wick: Chapter 2, exposing a new, mysterious element of the hitman economy just under the surface of the John Wick world.
“I’m not part of the Continental world,” Fishburne said, “but I’m part of another world that exists inside the world of John Wick.”
In John Wick: Chapter 2, Keanu Reeves will be up against Ruby Rose as the leader of a new crime syndicate with Common playing her head of security.
With Ian McShane and Lance Reddick returning as the owner and concierge of The Continental, it seems the hitman hotel and its economy of gold coins will continue to play a big part of Chapter 2.
Fishburne’s role would seem to stand apart from both of these factions, but will have something to do with the fantastical hitman underworld of the first movie. “It’s like a part of his world that exists but you wouldn’t know about it, and it won’t really be revealed until the second movie,” Fishburne said.
Here’s the John Wick: Chapter 2 portion of the Laurence Fishburne interview, should you want to parse his words for yourself.
John Wick: Chapter 2 will be out in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
