A lot of times when we post a new international trailer for a major release like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, what we’re posting is the same ol’ trailer you’ve seen, with maybe an extra shot or two thrown in. That’s not at all the case with the new Rogue One trailer. This thing is loaded with new footage: of Jyn as a child, of Mads Mikkelsen (whose role in the movie keeps looking bigger and bigger), of the Death Star and the Rebels and yes, Darth Vader too. This is one hell of a trailer.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ International Trailer
The end has our best look at Darth Vader yet. And as much as we (me) enjoy complaining about how Disney seems more satisfied with retreading old Star Wars stuff, there’s a force to his appearance, a liveliness in once more experiencing the gravity of the greatest movie villain ever, that’s a little breath catching.
Though the reshoot madness still leaves open the very real possibility that Rogue One is a complete mess, the trailers have been really wonderful. But so was the trailer for The Force Awakens (and Episode 1 for that matter). Let’s all hope Rogue One can live up to expectations when it hits theaters on Dec. 16.
