GameStop is celebrating its Pro Day savings event for GameStop Power-Up Rewards Card members Feb. 11, and in addition to the savings gamers can get that Saturday, GameStop is offering 1000 guests a chance to pre-order the Nintendo Switch.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch immediately ran out when reservations opened up following the Switch press conference in Japan on Jan. 13, and now the retailer is offering guests a chance to get their hands on the hybrid console when it releases March 3.
According to GameStop, “guests can now come into their local store for the chance to pre-order one of 1,000 Nintendo Switch consoles. There will be 1,000 lucky guests nationwide who will be selected at random to pre-order a Nintendo Switch console. ALL GameStop guests will be offered the opportunity to be selected at random and not just Power-Up Rewards members.”
UPDATE: Here's clarification from GameStop on the process: "Tomorrow only, guests can stop by GameStop for a chance to pre-order one of 1000 Nintendo Switch consoles, which will be available at launch on 3/3. GameStop stores and guests will be selected at random throughout the day on Saturday. They just walk in and ask and don't have to purchase anything. Also, it's zero money down."
How customers go about entering is not clear just yet, so we’ve reached out to GameStop for clarification and will update with more information.
The latest round of Nintendo Switch pre-orders from GameStop comes after reports claimed the retailer was informing some customers their reservations were being cancelled. GameStop gave iDigitalTimes the following statement refuting the reports.
“GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues. We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative gaming system. Should any customer who pre-ordered a Nintendo Switch console from GameStop experience any issue with their order, we encourage them to contact our Guest Care team so we can help resolve the issue.”
