It had been expected that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch would sell out and new reports claim some retailers are actually cancelling reservations because of suspected shortages. However, GameStop has reassured customers that pre-orders are not being cancelled.
In a statement to iDigitalTimes, the retailer confirmed that those who pre-ordered through GameStop will not have their reservations cancelled.
GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues. We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative gaming system. Should any customer who pre-ordered a Nintendo Switch console from GameStop experience any issue with their order, we encourage them to contact our Guest Care team so we can help resolve the issue.
Reports of cancelled Nintendo Switch pre-orders popped up after Nintendo Today reported GameStop and Target had cancelled Nintendo Switch pre-orders because of shortage on Nintendo’s part.
Thankfully, it seems that those reports were overblown, judging from GameStop’s statement says.
Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime told Wired that there will be about two million units of the Switch shipped when the console launches on March 3.
“What we’ve said publicly is that there will be two million units that will be shipped worldwide for the launch, essentially through month one. Two million for essentially the first month is a huge number, especially when you look and see that this is not peak seasonality. This is essentially the first three weeks of March. Our focus is making sure that the consumer who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch. That’s how we build our supply chain, that’s how we think through the amount of product that’s available.”
Again, if you are having trouble with your GameStop pre-order be sure to check with the Guest Care team.
