Oculus announced the price and release date for its Quest 2 VR headset. The successor to the Quest VR headset that launched in May 2019, the Quest 2 is said to feature an improved design, better resolution, and improved controllers. Surprisingly, the Quest 2 will be much cheaper than the original headset. The VR headset will release on October 13 for $299.
The Oculus Quest 2 will support a maximum resolution of 1832x1920 for each eye, and it will also be significantly much powerful than the previous headset. The Quest 2 will have 2-3 hours of battery life and an ergonomic controller with dedicated thumb rest.
Just like the original Quest VR headset, the Quest 2 can be easily connected to your PC via a USB-C cable to run Oculus Link, allowing users to enjoy VR-compatible games. The new headset will also support hand tracking, which is set to leave beta pretty soon. Hand tracking allows players to step away from touch controls, however, but does have its limitations in certain applications.
Just like game streaming, VR gaming is also becoming quite popular nowadays. And games like Half-Life: Alyx have been pushing players toward VR gaming. But, it's important to know that VR gaming is relatively new and it has to go a long way before becoming stable.
VR headsets do involve a lot of cables and it is one of the major pain points why many gamers sway away from the tech. Regardless, some players really enjoy the VR gaming experience.
Since the release date isn't too far, fans won't have to wait too long to get their hands on the new iteration of the Oculus Quest headset. Moreover, with the launch of Quest 2, players will now need a Facebook account to log into Oculus Link.
Oculus Quest 2 is releasing on October 13, starting at $299.
