Grinding Gear Games announced its upcoming expansion Synthesis only days ago, and earlier today announced the release of the PS4 edition of Path of Exile, which will include all the expansions and DLC so far, including Synthesis. The expansion is set to be released on March 8 for PC and on March 11 for Xbox One, with the PS4 edition scheduled to debut sometime after Synthesis launches in March.
Console gamers were a little disappointed in December 2018 when Grinding Gear Games delayed the release of the PS4 edition of Path of Exile following the launch of its most recent expansion and challenge league, Betrayal. However, work on the PS4 edition has been well under way, with the development team spending a little more time on it than planned to ensure a solid gaming experience.
Path of Exile is an action RPG widely considered to be the spiritual successor of Diablo II, one of the first and most popular ARPG titles in the history of gaming. Indeed, Path of Exile is considered a direct competitor of Blizzard’s Diablo III, with hardcore RPG fans promoting either video game title with passion. While Diablo III has struggled in recent years to maintain its once massive player base, Path of Exile has continued to bring season after season of exciting gameplay changes and updates. Path of Exile is also completely free-to-play, and runs on cosmetic micro-transactions with no pay-to-win elements.
With the release of the PS4 edition and the latest Path of Exile expansion, there’s no better time than now to jump into Path of Exile. Especially following the mixed response of the Diablo fanbase at last year’s Blizzcon where the developers unveiled the mobile game Diablo Immortal to the disappointment of the franchise’s die-hard PC and console fans, Path of Exile might offer enough great content, story, and gameplay to keep players engaged until they announce Diablo IV.
Once the PS4 Edition is officially released, Grinding Gear Games has noted that it will look into cross-play, allowing PC players, Xbox One players, and now PS4 players, to enjoy a seamless cross-platform gaming experience.
