Periscope has updated their iOS app for iPhone to enable streaming with the GoPro HERO 4 series cameras. The GoPro camera connects to the iPhone via WiFi, and then broadcasts the resulting feed live on the Internet.
“GoPro enables people to capture and share their experiences in the most immersive way possible,” GoPro President Tony Bates said. “The integration with Periscope provides GoPro users with a great, real-time platform to share their content.”
To start broadcasting your GoPro camera feed on the Periscope app, make sure you’ve connected your iPhone to the GoPro’s WiFi network. Once video mode has been enabled, open up the Periscope iOS app and start broadcasting. The GoPro button should be automatically selected. Once you’ve gone live, you can double tap this button to switch between broadcasting your GoPro camera feed or your iPhone camera feed.
Periscope has also added a new screen lock feature with this latest update to make sure your broadcast is not interrupted while your phone is in your pocket. Also included in the update is further integration with the iOS Twitter app, which isn’t unexpected considering who develops Periscope.
Meerkat, an alternative to Periscope, integrated GoPro functionality months ago according to 9to5Mac, with the GoPro 3 series.
