'Persona 5' Preorders Cancelled Without Notice, Claim Fans

Several gamers on reddit and NeoGAF claim Amazon has cancelled their Persona 5 preorders. It seems the issue applies to preorders of both the Take Your Heart Premium Edition bundle and the PS4 SteelBook edition. [UPDATED: Atlus has released an official statement commenting on the issue, which can be seen below.]

Though the NeoGAF post claims Amazon is “mass cancelling” orders of Persona 5, it’s worth noting many people in the thread have stated they haven’t had any problems. Things look a little worse over on the P5 subreddit though, where several people have chimed in with similar experiences.

The original posts of both threads mention receiving an email from Amazon which stated the item contained “dangerous goods” that could not be sent by the retailer. The OPs and other users on both forums have clarified this explanation after speaking to Amazon Customer Service. “Spoke with a customer service rep, and they told me that the actual reason was due to the supplier cancelling orders,” said redditor Hookerbot20XX.

Elsewhere, the NeoGAF thread’s OP Chris R provided the following update: “Well, I got a response from Amazon. They said it was a mistake, and that I should reorder the item. They also said they would wave [sic] shipping costs. I don't know if this is a case by case situation, but if you had your order cancelled, contact Amazon and they might respond with the same information now

UPDATE: Persona Central published an offical statement from Atlus stating that there is nothing wrong with any copies of Persona 5, and the cancellations have only affected a small number of customers:

"This morning we were surprised to learn about Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition cancellations with Amazon. After waiting patiently during the day we received word, and can confirm to you what we’ve always known, that there’s nothing defective or 'dangerous' about our product. While there have been cancellations, we understand that only a tiny number of Amazon sales have been affected. No “mass cancellations” of the premium and SteelBook editions have occurred. If your order has been cancelled, please contact the retailer for support."

This isn’t the first we’ve reported of something going little helter-skelter with the distribution of Persona 5; one lucky fan has already posted an unboxing video of the Take Your Heart Premium Edition Bundle, weeks before the game’s April 4 release date.
