Frontier Developments confirmed four new developer-designed roller coasters for Planet Coaster at Frontier Expo, and that’s just a portion of the content bundled into the game’s Anniversary Update. There’s even a few minutes of footage to give fans a sneak peek at Frontier’s plans for Planet Coaster’s first birthday.
Three of the four new attractions, confirmed for release by the end of the year, were detailed during Frontier’s fan gathering. The Weisshorn is instantly recognizable as the sort of entry-level roller coasters marketed to families at local fairs and amusement parks. The Cascade finally brings water rides to Planet Coaster. No word on if/how the game plans to simulate the feeling of regret that comes when you forget to shield your phone from all that extra moisture. Frontier also revealed Hop The Gaps, a “bumpy side friction ride” that pays tribute to a roller coaster design rarely seen anymore.
More exciting for fans is news that all of the game’s coaster trains can have their track switched to any other track type. We’re obviously going to transform all of the game’s prebuilt coasters into water attractions -- even the bumper cars, if it’s allowed -- but I guess theoretically it means you could make other alterations, too. The Anniversary Update also introduces a new Staff Management building to expand the player’s interaction with park staff, but Frontier says the changescan also be disabled if you’re just trying to relax and build a new park.
Planet Coaster’s Anniversary Update will also include a new Scenario Editor. Not everyone is a fan of the game’s Scenario content, with many preferring to build their own facilities instead of inheriting the remains of an existing site. But those who do prefer a bit of direction can build new scenarios for the Planet Coaster community and/or download new scenarios built by other fans.
