A massive new Planet Coaster patch is out this week to celebrate the game’s first year, and the Anniversary Update delivers some of the most frequently requested features from the last 12 months. There’s even a new scenario editor, with full Steam Workshop integration, for all the aspiring campaign creators in the Planet Coaster community.
Five new developer-designed amusements are included in the Anniversary Update. There are a pair of new rides, the Weisshorn and Monte Leone, inspired by the Caterpillar rides of the 1920s. The Weisshorn modernizes the look and feel of those early Caterpillar rides, while the Monte Leone gives players more freedom to customize the attraction’s environmental decor. The Anniversary Update also delivers the game’s first water ride, the Cascade, a track-based water ride that incorporates traditional coaster elements and a few big splashes. Planet Coaster also gets a new wooden coaster, Hop The Gaps, and and a hydraulic-launched coaster, Zenith, with a top speed of 175 miles per hour.
The new Scenario Editor gives Planet Coaster fans a surprisingly deep level of control over new campaign missions. Players can decide which loans and research are available, what scenery can be used to decorate the park and which guest demographics are available. They’ll also be able to create multi-goal objectives, with time limits if desired, and even determine profiles for park staff. There’s also a new park structure, the Staff Building, which gives staff somewhere to rest and recharge their energy meters (also new in the AU). Staff can also go on strike, or abandon their posts if they aren’t given breaks.
