Following the popularity of the internet meme known as Ultra Instinct Shaggy, it comes as no surprise that the online gaming and modding community came up with the Shaggy Mod for Jump Force.
Despite the disappointment two weeks ago over the exclusion of Shaggy Rogers as a playable character in NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 11, fans of the beloved cartoon character responded to the release of the Shaggy Mod for Jump Force with overwhelming support and excitement.
Modder BeatzYT3 collaborated with character designer vaanrose to help bring Shaggy into the Jump Force roster. While vaanrose worked on the character design and modelling for Shaggy, it was BeatzYT3 who worked on the rigging, and also who did the voice lines for Shaggy’s in-game battle cries. The mod was received well by Jump Force players who all felt that, apart from a few minor details, the Shaggy mod felt like it belonged to the game, right down to the custom character model and unique voicing.
Because of some limitations of modding in Jump Force, the Shaggy Mod doesn’t really add Shaggy to the roster - it only skins Dragonball's Vegeta to look and sounds like him. Granted, its hilarious and great fun to watch Shaggy go Super Saiyan and fight toe-to-toe with some of the most powerful beings in the Shonen Jump universe.
The mod was released on February 17, 2019, only two days after the game’s official release. The latest beta version (v2) is available on the Jump Force Mods website and is free to download. Co-creator BeatzYT3 notes that the model and animations are still a work-in-progress. While Shaggy may have all of Vegeta’s fighting moves down, there’s still plenty of room to make the mod even better, such as giving Shaggy the right facial animations.
Jump Force is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Players interested in the Shaggy Mod or other mods for the PC version of Jump Force can check out the official online modding community at Jump Force Mods.
