The Game Awards founder and host Geoff Keighley says gamers will get their first look at the desert map coming to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds during The Game Awards on Thursday, Dec. 7. And we’re finally learning more about PUBG’s Xbox One port before it hits Xbox Live in early December.
There’s been a great deal of discussion about whether or not PUBG should be a Game of the Year nominee, considering it won’t leave Early Access until after this year’s Game Awards. But there shouldn’t be any controversy about the desert map’s debut, considering trailers have played a prominent role in Keighley’s annual awards show since its inception. Keighley’s tweet didn’t include any further information on the reveal, like whether it will be a trailer, match, guided tour, etc. Whatever form it takes, we’re probably not alone in hoping it leaves some surprises for players to discover when the desert map arrives (with the launch build of PUBG) late next month.
The game’s creative director, Brendan Greene, also sat down for an interview with UK gaming magazine gamesTM recently, where he revealed some surprising (and good) news about the upcoming Xbox One version of PUBG. According to Greene, Battlegrounds will support the recently released Xbox One X when the game makes its console debut next month. PUBG Corporation expects the game to hit 60fps on Microsoft’s newest console and it will also ship with HDR support on the One S and One X. But PUBG may be capped at 30fps on the regular Xbox One and it’s going to be a while before 4K textures are released. (h/t WCCFTech)
For more on PUBG’ s future, circle back around to Greene’s thoughts on mod support, parity between the game’s graphics settings and the potential addition of a cinematic camera suite. We also spoke with PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim, back in September, who offered an explanation on the lack of rocket launchers in Battlegrounds and insight on the growing pains that come with selling 20 million copies of a competitive shooter in eight months.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available in Early Access. The launch build is expected to hit Steam in late December and a Xbox One port is currently slated for Dec. 12.
