Dan Harmon hasn’t been shy about the Rick and Morty Season 3 release date. That’s not to say he’s announced a premiere date for Episode 1 or anything. More that he’s been slowly perfecting the devastating Twitter burn on anyone who asks about it.
But if you’ve been looking for a more thorough explanation than Harmon’s standard “they’re drawing it you gigantic asshole,” then look no further than Episode 231 of his podcast Harmontown, which offers the fullest explanation yet for the lengthy Rick and Morty Season 3 development process.
Here it is, what you wanted to know, straight from Dan Harmon, who has finally offered up a Season 3 Rick and Morty update rap:
“They’re drawing it,” Harmon says, before launching into a basic explanation of the animation process. “Here’s how cartoons work. First you write them, then you draw them. For a really long time. Everything needs to be on paper. So you can see it. So if all I do is write it and then put it on TV it will look like a script, instead of Rick and Morty, which you seem to like. So when you ask me where it is, the answer is: they're drawing it. And when you tell me to stop being political and get back to drawing it: I don't draw it."
Yes, it’s not the most satisfying answer (though very funny to watch, no transcript does it justice), but until Adult Swim makes it official this what we have to work with. Or you could put your faith in Mr. Poopy Butthole.
