Rockstar Games has been pretty generous with giving away millions of dollars of in-game cash over the past several months, especially for PS4 gamers. However, the company isn't happy with players who exploit and take advantage of glitches in the game. Players who exploited the notorious apartment garage glitch in GTA Online have now had their accounts reset to day one.
The account reset punishment wipes everything including money, level progression, and vehicles from the accounts that exploited the glitch. Even though Rockstar hasn't banned these accounts, the company has previously taken this extreme measure on players that profited from this glitch. Even accounts as old as seven years have been reset to a painful level one. This move from Rockstar Games hasn't been welcomed by many GTA Online players, with those upset swearing to never come back to the game.
YouTube videos showcasing how to use the money glitch in the game have also received a copyright strike from Take-Two Interactive, resulting in the removal of those videos.
The infamous money exploit glitch in the game was carried out by owning the most expensive CEO Office and having slots six and seven free to purchase an apartment or a garage. Players could then manipulate the Creator menu and buy specific properties, and within a few minutes, they can easily net two million in-game dollars.
Since success in GTA Online heavily relies on earning and spending cash, it is very important for the developer to keep money mechanics balanced. Failing to maintain this important balance can easily ruin the experience. Although Rockstar has reset accounts that exploited the money glitch, it is still unclear how much of an impact the exploit has had on the game's economy.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The game is also set to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
